June 28th (59 days at sea)
Back after a long absence. I'd like to apologize to my fan(s). As I've said in previous posts not much changes day to day aboard a United States Naval vessel. We pulled into Nha Trang, Vietnam on the 19th, the first US ship to do so since 1978 which is pretty cool when you thing about it. We actually got some liberty time in ‘Nam. The country was more or less closed to visitors as early as 5 years ago.
Great times in Vietnam this has probably been the best port visit yet. Awesome food, try the Pho, a Vietnamese noodle soup. We went to a fantastic Irish pub in Vietnam kind of strange but whatever. Lots of awesome shops…maybe shops is overselling it, more like stands with everything from local fruit to tennis shoes to clearly stolen electronics. The people are nice for the most part. They speak absolute no English which ranges from cute to annoying but most of the school aged children speak a bit of it so they can help you out with stuff around the market. I bought a lot of cool gifts for people on my shopping list. I still got about 5 people to buy for and 3 ports to do it in so I should just squeeze in under the tag,
Got Singapore coming up next for 5 days. I hear lots of craziness goes down there. It remains to be seen how much I’ll be involved in. I like the money I’m making and am kind of reluctant to part with it but we’ll see. They kind of jacked up the watch bill in regards to the people I want to go out with so I’ll see.
Have a good weekend. That is all.
I leave you with this quote.
“From a Marine in Da Nang: "Captain Hauk sucks the sweat off of a dead man's balls." I have no idea what that means, sir, but it seems very negative to me.”- Forest Whitaker from “Good Morning Vietnam”
